Explore North Carolina’s Agritourism Experiences this Spring: Farm Stays & Tours
March was a month of exploration and connection for Visit NC Farms as we delved into farm stays all across North Carolina.
The spring season presents a unique opportunity to support local farms through on-farm Airbnbs and event spaces. These stays not only provide a relaxing escape but also allow visitors to experience the beauty and charm of farm life while contributing to the local agricultural community.
One of our memorable stops was in Pittsboro, NC, where we stayed at Red Pepper Farms. This picturesque farm stay welcomed us with a stunning display of peacocks and an array of farm animals, from horses and goats to chickens and barn cats. The crisp morning air greeted us with a serene view of the farm, showcasing the harmony of nature. The owners shared their excitement for spring, with promises of blooming flowers and vibrant scenery. In addition to their farm stay, Red Pepper Farms hosts events, weddings, and offers a variety of farm-fresh products, including herbs, flowers, and eggs.
While in Pittsboro, we explored the local scene using the Visit NC Farms app, which led us to the Pittsboro Farmers Market. Held on Wednesdays from 3-6 PM at The Plant, the market features local distilleries, fresh groceries, and an assortment of North Carolina-made products. A highlight of our visit was Fair Game Beverage Co., where we enjoyed locally crafted beverages, snacks, and an engaging open mic night.
February also proved to be the perfect time for a romantic getaway. We stayed at the Green Cabin, an Airbnb nestled on a horse farm in Hendersonville, NC. Its prime location made it easy to visit nearby orchards, wineries, and farm stores. Many of these venues hosted live music and special events during the off-season, providing entertainment while supporting the local economy.
One of our first stops in Hendersonville was J and M Farms, an orchard with an attached farm store. Cheryl, one of the owners, shared their mission to support local artists by regularly hosting live music events. Their store offers an array of apple products, hard ciders, cheeses, sweets, and more. We also visited St. Paul Vineyard, where visitors can stay at an Airbnb right on the vineyard. The breathtaking views of grapevines against the Blue Ridge Mountains, paired with wine tastings and live music, made for an unforgettable experience. We look forward to returning in the fall to enjoy apple picking and the stunning autumn colors.
This month, we also added two new farm stays to the Visit NC Farms app, including J&L Farm Venue. Searching for "farm stays and lodging" on the app allows travelers to discover nearby farm accommodations, plan their trips, and support local agriculture along the way.
